Creating a Mixed Division

A mixed division allows groups from different skill levels or categories to compete together while still tracking their individual division placements. This is useful for combined finals or "super finals" events.

What is a Mixed Division?

In a standard division, all groups compete against each other for the same placements. In a mixed division:

• Groups from multiple divisions perform in the same competition session
• Each group is scored using the same scoring system
• Placements can be shown both within each original division AND overall
• Recap sheets can display division-specific or combined results

Example: A "World Class Finals" mixed division might include groups from World Class A, World Class B, and World Class C divisions, all competing together but with separate placement tracking.

When to Use Mixed Divisions

• Combined finals where multiple divisions perform together
• Championship rounds that merge preliminary division winners
• Showcase events where groups from different levels perform in one session

Creating a Mixed Division

1. Navigate to Settings > Divisions
2. Click Create a Division under the appropriate group type
3. Enter a Name and Initials for the mixed division
4. Go to the Advanced tab
5. Set Mixed Division to Yes
6. Configure your score systems in the Score Systems tab
7. Click Save

Configuring Recap Display Settings

Once a mixed division is created, additional recap settings become available in the Recap tab:

Division Initials Visibility

Control whether each group's original division initials (e.g., "WCA", "WCB") appear on recap sheets.

Division Placement Visibility

Show each group's placement within their original division.

Example: A group might show as "3rd Overall" but "1st in World Class A"

Overall Placement Visibility

Show the combined placement across all groups in the mixed division.

Best Practices

1. Consistent Scoring - Ensure all groups in a mixed division use compatible scoring systems
2. Clear Naming - Use names that clearly indicate the mixed nature (e.g., "Open Class Combined Finals")
3. Recap Settings - Consider your audience when configuring what placements to display
4. Testing - Create a test event to verify your recap settings display as expected before your actual competition
