Set Up Two-Step Verification
Two-step verification (also called two-factor authentication or 2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your account. When enabled, you'll need both your password and a code from your phone to log in.
Why Use Two-Step Verification?
- Protects your account even if your password is compromised
- Prevents unauthorized access from unknown devices
- Secures sensitive data like competition scores and group information
What You'll Need
Before setting up two-step verification, install an authenticator app on your phone:
- Google Authenticator (iOS, Android)
- Authy (iOS, Android)
- Microsoft Authenticator (iOS, Android)
These apps generate time-based codes that refresh every 30 seconds.
Enable Two-Step Verification
- Go to Settings > Security
- In the Two-Step Verification section, click Enable
- A QR code will appear on screen
- Open your authenticator app
- Tap the + or Add Account button
- Select Scan QR Code and scan the code on screen
- Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app
- Click Verify
Once verified, two-step verification is active on your account.
Logging In with Two-Step Verification
After enabling 2FA, your login process will be:
- Enter your email and password as usual
- When prompted, open your authenticator app
- Enter the current 6-digit code
- Click Verify to complete login
Tip: Codes refresh every 30 seconds. If a code doesn't work, wait for the next one.
Disable Two-Step Verification
If you need to turn off two-step verification:
- Go to Settings > Security
- In the Two-Step Verification section, click Disable
- Confirm your choice
Warning: Disabling two-step verification makes your account less secure. Only disable it if necessary.
Troubleshooting
My code isn't working
- Ensure your phone's time is set automatically (not manual)
- Wait for the next code to generate
- Make sure you're entering the code for CompetitionSuite, not another account
I lost access to my authenticator app
- If you have access to your account, disable 2FA and re-enable with your new device
- If you're locked out, contact support for assistance with account recovery
I got a new phone
- Log in to CompetitionSuite (while you still have your old phone)
- Disable two-step verification
- Set up your authenticator app on your new phone
- Re-enable two-step verification with the new device
The QR code won't scan
- Increase your screen brightness
- Try moving your phone closer or farther from the screen
- Ensure your camera has permission to access the authenticator app
- Try manually entering the setup key if your app provides that option
Best Practices
- Keep your authenticator app backed up - Some apps like Authy offer cloud backup
- Don't share screenshots of your QR code or setup key
- Set up 2FA on multiple devices if your authenticator app supports it
- Update your phone number in your account settings in case you need account recovery
