Custom Interval Settings

# Custom Interval Settings When building competition schedules, you can customize how interval times are calculated for each group type. This allows you to adjust timing without modifying your division settings. ## Accessing Interval Settings 1. Navigate to your event's **Schedule** setup page 2. Expand the group type panel you want to configure 3. Find the **Interval Settings** section below the Schedule Template dropdown ## Interval Modes Choose from four modes to control how intervals are calculated: ### Use Base Interval (Default) Uses the interval time defined in your division settings without modification. This is the standard behavior. **When to use:** Most competitions where division intervals are already set correctly. ### Calculated Formula Apply a multiplier and optional addend to the base interval using this formula: ``` Effective Interval = (Base Interval × Multiplier) + Addend ``` - **Multiplier** - A whole number from 0 to 10 that multiplies the base interval - **Addend** - Additional minutes to add or subtract (-60 to +60 minutes) **Example:** If your division interval is 10 minutes and you set Multiplier=2 and Addend=5: - Effective Interval = (10 × 2) + 5 = **25 minutes** **When to use:** When you need proportionally longer intervals for certain group types (e.g., doubling intervals for championship-level performances). ### Specific Time - Replace Sets a fixed interval time regardless of division settings. **Example:** Set to 15 minutes, and all groups of this type will have exactly 15-minute intervals. **When to use:** When you need consistent timing regardless of what divisions are participating. ### Specific Time - Add Adds a fixed number of minutes to the base interval. ``` Effective Interval = Base Interval + Specific Value ``` **Example:** If your division interval is 10 minutes and you add 5 minutes: - Effective Interval = 10 + 5 = **15 minutes** **When to use:** When you need a bit more time between performances for a particular group type. ## Real-Time Preview As you adjust interval settings, a preview displays the calculated interval: ``` 15 min × 2 + 5 = 35 min ``` This helps you verify your settings before saving. ## How It Works with Division Overrides If you've set a division-level interval override for specific divisions: 1. The group type interval formula is applied first 2. Any division-level override then takes final precedence This means division overrides can still fine-tune specific divisions even when a group type formula is active. ## Saving Changes Interval settings are saved when you click **Save Schedule**. They apply to all schedule calculations for that group type within the competition. ## Tips - **Start simple** - Use "Base Interval" mode unless you have a specific need for custom calculations - **Test with preview** - Check the calculated interval before saving to ensure timing is correct - **Consider all groups** - The interval setting applies to all groups of that type in the competition - **Use division overrides for exceptions** - If only certain divisions need different timing, use division-level overrides instead ## Related Topics - [Setting Up Schedule Templates](schedule-templates-overview.md) - [Create a Schedule Template](creating-schedule-templates.md) - [Creating a Schedule](/article/97-creating-a-schedule)
