Joining a Group
This guide explains how to find and join a group, including how to select your member type when requesting access.
Finding Your Group
- Click Find Groups in your account menu
- Search for your group by name
- Browse the results to find the correct group
Requesting to Join
When you find your group:
- Click the Request Access button
- Select your member type:
- Staff Member — Choose if you're an instructor, coach, or need full access
- Competitor — Choose if you're a performer who needs specific feedback
- Event Messages Only — Choose if you need notifications only (chaperones, boosters, etc.)
- Submit your request
Note: The Admin option is not available when requesting to join. If you need admin access, request as Staff Member and ask a current admin to upgrade you after approval.
What Happens Next
Your request goes to the group's admin for review. They will see:
- Your name and email
- The member type you requested
The admin can:
- Approve with your requested type — You get the access level you asked for
- Approve with a different type — They may choose a different access level
- Deny the request — You won't be added to the group
You'll be notified when your request is processed.
After You're Approved
Once approved, you can access the group based on your member type:
| Your Type | What You Can Access |
|---|---|
| Staff Member | All scores, commentary, videos, resources |
| Competitor | Only captions shared by your admin |
| Event Messages Only | Notifications only |
See the guide for your specific member type for more details.
Requesting a Type Change
If you need a different access level after joining:
- Contact your group admin directly
- Explain why you need different access
- The admin can change your type from the Member Management page
Note: You can request to become an Admin through the system (if the group allows it), but other type changes require the admin to make the change.
Leaving a Group
If you need to leave a group:
- Go to the group's main page
- Look for the Leave Group option
- Confirm your decision
Leaving a group removes all your access immediately. If you were a Competitor, your caption access history is retained for audit purposes but you can no longer view the content.
Multiple Groups
You can be a member of multiple groups. Your member type is set separately for each group—you might be a Staff Member in one group and a Competitor in another.
Frequently Asked Questions
I can't find my group in search
Check the spelling and try partial names. If you still can't find it, contact your group admin for the exact name or a direct invitation.
How long does approval take?
It depends on your group admin. Some approve requests immediately; others review them periodically. Contact your admin if you haven't heard back in a reasonable time.
Can I change my requested type after submitting?
No. If you realize you selected the wrong type, contact your group admin after they approve your request to discuss changing it.
My admin approved me with a different type than I requested
Admins can override your requested type when approving. If you believe you need a different access level, discuss it with them.
