Manage Your Spiel Scripts

Once you've created spiel scripts, you can edit them, clone them to create variations, or remove scripts you no longer need.

Accessing Your Scripts

  1. Log in to CompetitionSuite
  2. Go to your organization
  3. Click Settings in the top navigation
  4. Select Spiel Scripts from the Setup menu

Your scripts appear organized by group type. Each panel shows all scripts created for that group type, sorted alphabetically by name.

Edit a Spiel Script

  1. Click on the script name in the list
  2. The edit dialog opens with the current name and content
  3. Make your changes:
  • Update the Name field
  • Modify the script content using the rich text editor
  • Add or remove variables as needed
  1. Click Save to apply changes

Changes take effect immediately for any events using this script.

Clone a Spiel Script

Cloning creates a copy of an existing script, useful when you want to create a variation without starting from scratch.

  1. Click on the script you want to clone
  2. Click the Clone button (orange) in the dialog footer
  3. A new dialog opens with:
  • Title: "Clone of [Original Script Name] ([Group Type])"
  • Name: "Clone of [Original Script Name]"
  • Content: Copy of the original script
  1. Modify the name and content as needed
  2. Click Save to create the clone

The clone is created as a completely separate script. Changes to the original do not affect the clone and vice versa.

When to Clone

Scenario Example
Create championship version Clone standard script, add director recognition
Adjust for different venues Clone script, change venue-specific language
Archive before major changes Clone current version, then edit original
Create abbreviated version Clone full script, remove optional content

Delete a Spiel Script

  1. Click on the script you want to remove
  2. Click the Remove button (red, bottom-left corner)
  3. A confirmation dialog appears:

"You're about to remove the spiel script [Script Name] from [Group Type]! This action can not be undone."

  1. Click Yes, remove [Script Name] to confirm
  2. Or click Cancel to keep the script

Important Notes on Deletion

  • Permanent action - Deleted scripts cannot be recovered
  • Event impact - If this script is assigned to any competitions, those competitions will no longer have an announcer script unless you assign a different one
  • No cascade effect - Deleting a script does not affect any historical data or past events

Organizing Your Scripts

Naming Conventions

Use clear, descriptive names to help staff quickly identify the right script:

Good Names Poor Names
Standard Introduction Script 1
Championship Finals New
Abbreviated - Time Crunch Copy of Script
Recognition - Full Credits Test

Consider creating these standard scripts for each group type:

  1. Standard Introduction - Basic group introduction for regular competitions
  2. Championship/Finals - Extended version with additional recognition
  3. Time Crunch - Abbreviated version when running behind schedule
  4. Recognition Script - Includes sponsors, membership acknowledgments

Script Maintenance

Before Each Season

  • Review scripts for outdated information
  • Update any sponsor mentions
  • Verify custom variables still match your Group Data setup
  • Test scripts with a few sample groups

When Updating Data Collection Fields

If you modify your Data Collection configuration (add, remove, or rename fields):

  1. Review all spiel scripts that might use affected variables
  2. Variables for removed fields will display as empty text
  3. Update scripts to use new variable names if fields were renamed

Troubleshooting

Script changes not showing at events

  • Refresh the announcer's Spiel Sheets page
  • Verify the correct script is assigned to the competition
  • Check that you clicked Save after making changes

Wrong script appears at event

  • Each competition's group type needs a script assigned
  • Go to Event Setup > Announcer Settings to verify assignment

Can't find a script

  • Scripts are organized by group type
  • Check that you're looking in the correct group type panel
  • Scripts are sorted alphabetically - scroll if you have many scripts
