Create a Configuration
Add new configurations to define different competition setups for your group types. Each configuration can be assigned its own scoring system when setting up divisions.
Before You Start
- You should have at least one scoring system created before adding configurations
- Decide which group type the configuration belongs to
Steps to Create a Configuration
Step 1: Navigate to Configurations
- Open your organization
- Click Settings in the top navigation
- Select Configurations from the left sidebar
Step 2: Add a New Configuration
If you have no configurations yet:
- You'll see the empty state with "What configurations do you need?"
- Click Add a Configuration
If you already have configurations:
- Click Create a Configuration at the bottom of the page, or
- Click Add an Additional Configuration in the header of an existing group type panel
Step 3: Complete the Form
| Field | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Select the group type this configuration belongs to | Winter Guard, Percussion, Marching Band |
| Name | Enter a descriptive name for this configuration | "3 Judge Panel", "Regional Format", "Championship" |
Step 4: Save
Click Save to create the configuration.
Best Practices
Naming Conventions
Use clear, descriptive names that indicate the difference between configurations:
| Good Names | Why |
|---|---|
| 2 Judge Events | Clearly indicates judge count |
| 3 Judge Events | Easy to distinguish from 2 Judge |
| Regional Format | Indicates competition level |
| Championship Format | Indicates competition level |
| Scholastic | Indicates participant type |
| Independent | Indicates participant type |
| Avoid | Why |
|---|---|
| Config 1, Config 2 | Not descriptive |
| Test | Unclear purpose |
| New | Will become confusing over time |
When to Create Multiple Configurations
Create separate configurations when you need to:
- Use different scoring systems for the same group type at different events
- Support different judge panel sizes
- Accommodate different competition formats (regional vs. championship)
- Track different participant categories that require distinct scoring
When a Single Configuration is Enough
One configuration per group type is sufficient when:
- All your events use the same scoring system
- Judge panel size is consistent across events
- Competition format doesn't vary
What Happens Next
After creating a configuration:
- Go to Settings > Divisions
- Create or edit a division
- Assign a scoring system to your new configuration
- The scoring system will be used when that configuration applies to an event
Troubleshooting
"You must provide a name!"
You clicked Save without entering a configuration name. Enter a name in the Name field and try again.
"There was a problem saving the configuration!"
This usually indicates a temporary system issue. Wait a moment and try again. If the problem persists, contact support.
Configuration doesn't appear after saving
Refresh the page. The configuration should appear under its group type.
