Configurations
Configurations define the types of competitions your organization manages and enable you to assign different scoring systems to each type. They bridge the gap between your group types and the scoring systems used at your events.
Why Use Configurations?
- Support multiple activity types - Manage different competition styles (e.g., 2-judge vs. 3-judge events) under one organization
- Flexible scoring - Assign different scoring systems to the same division based on the configuration
- Organized structure - Keep your group types and scoring options clearly organized
Understanding Configurations
Configurations work at the intersection of three key concepts:
| Concept | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Group Type | The category of performing groups | Marching Band, Winter Guard, Percussion |
| Configuration | A specific competition setup for that group type | "3 Judge", "2 Judge", "Regional Format" |
| Scoring System | The judging criteria and point structure | "WGI Percussion A Class", "BOA Regional" |
Common Use Cases
Different Judge Panels
A cheerleading organization runs some events with 2 judges and others with 3 judges. Each judge count requires different scoring weights.
| Configuration | Scoring System |
|---|---|
| 2 Judge Events | Cheer 2-Panel System |
| 3 Judge Events | Cheer 3-Panel System |
Multiple Competition Formats
A marching band circuit offers both regional and championship events with different scoring breakdowns.
| Configuration | Scoring System |
|---|---|
| Regional Events | Regional Scoring (simplified) |
| Championship Events | Championship Scoring (detailed) |
Adding New Activities
A gymnastics organization wants to start hosting dance competitions alongside their existing events.
| Group Type | Configuration |
|---|---|
| Gymnastics | Level 1-10 |
| Dance (new) | Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Jazz |
How Configurations Work
- Create configurations in Settings > Configurations (organized by group type)
- Link to divisions when creating or editing divisions, assign scoring systems to each configuration
- Use at events the system automatically applies the correct scoring based on division configuration
