Boundary Systems
Boundary Systems allow you to define performance area boundaries for your events and configure point penalties when performers exceed those boundaries. This feature is commonly used in marching arts, dance, and other activities where staying within a defined performance area is required.
What Are Boundary Systems?
A Boundary System defines a visual representation of the performance area boundaries along with an associated penalty value. When a performer or prop crosses outside the boundary lines, judges can apply a penalty deduction based on your configured settings.
For example, a color guard competition might use:
- Standard Floor Boundary for indoor performances on a standard floor
- Tarp Boundary for performances on a tarp-covered surface
- Custom Venue Boundary for a specific venue with unique dimensions
Key Concepts
Group Types
Boundary systems are organized by the group types your organization uses (e.g., Color Guard, Percussion, Winds). Each group type can have multiple boundary systems configured, allowing you to define different boundaries for different competition formats or venues.
Boundary Images
Each boundary system includes a visual layout image that shows the performance area boundaries. This image is displayed to judges and staff so they understand exactly where the boundary lines are located.
Image Requirements:
- Dimensions: 475 pixels wide by 250 pixels tall (exact)
- Formats: PNG, JPG, or GIF only
- Content: Should clearly show the boundary lines and any relevant markers
Penalty Values
Each boundary system has an associated penalty value. This is the point deduction applied each time a boundary violation occurs. The penalty can be any decimal value (e.g., 0.5, 1.0, 2.5).
Accessing Boundary Systems
- Navigate to your organization
- Click Settings in the top-right menu
- Under Timing & Penalties Setup in the left sidebar, select Boundary Systems
Common Use Cases
- Indoor Color Guard: Define floor boundaries for different venue sizes
- Percussion Ensembles: Set up pit area boundaries
- Marching Band: Configure field boundaries for different stadiums
- Dance/Cheer: Mark performance area limits for competition mats
