Event Messaging Overview

Send SMS text messages to groups participating in your event directly from CompetitionSuite. Quickly communicate schedule changes, announcements, and important updates to performers, staff, and contacts.

What Event Messaging Does

Event Messaging allows you to send mass text messages to:

All groups in specific divisions
Individual groups you select
Custom contact lists you've created
BAND App communities (if integrated)

Messages are sent to phone numbers registered to group staff members who have opted in to receive SMS notifications.

Accessing Event Messaging

Navigate to your event
Select a competition from the event
Click Messaging in the navigation bar

The Messaging option appears between "Announcer" and "Score Preview" in the competition navigation.

Prerequisites

Event Messaging requires:

Active Event - The event must have a payment method on file. Messaging is unavailable until the event is activated.
Non-Training Event - Training events do not have messaging enabled.
Mass Message Access - Your account must have permission to send mass messages for this event.

If you see a "Messaging Disabled" notice, check that your event meets these requirements.

Key Features

Compose Messages

Write custom messages up to 1600 characters. Your organization's initials are automatically added to the beginning of each message (e.g., "ABC: Your message here").

Use Saved Messages

Insert pre-written message templates to save time during busy events. Saved messages are created in your organization's Settings area.

Target Recipients

Choose exactly who receives your message:

Select entire divisions
Pick specific groups from the lineup
Include custom contact lists
Post to BAND App communities

Message History

Review all messages sent during this competition, including who sent them and when.

Who Can Use Event Messaging

Users need the Mass Message permission for the event. This is typically granted to:

Event Directors
Tabulation Coordinators
Organization Administrators

Contact your organization administrator if you need access.

Message Delivery

Messages are queued and sent as SMS text messages through CompetitionSuite's messaging system. Recipients must have:

A valid phone number on their account
SMS notifications enabled in their account settings
Association with a group or contact list you've selected

Cost Information

Event Messaging is included with your event activation. There is no additional per-message charge for standard SMS within the included usage limits.
