Locking and Verifying Scores

Score locking and verification helps ensure scoring accuracy during your competition. This guide explains how to use these features from the Event Scoring page.

Understanding Lock vs. Verification

Feature Purpose Who Controls It
Locking Prevents further changes to a score Tabulation staff (you)
Verification Confirms a score has been reviewed and approved Verification workflow

Locking Scores

Locking a score prevents judges from making additional changes. This is useful when:

  • A judge has finished scoring a performance
  • You need to finalize scores before releasing results
  • You want to prevent accidental score modifications

Lock an Individual Subcaption Score

  1. Expand the performance card by clicking the chevron icon
  2. Find the subcaption you want to lock
  3. Click the unlock icon (open padlock) next to the score
  4. The icon changes to a closed padlock indicating the score is locked

Unlock an Individual Subcaption Score

  1. Find the locked subcaption (shows a closed padlock icon)
  2. Click the lock icon
  3. The score is now unlocked and can be modified by the judge

Lock All Scores for a Performance

To quickly lock all subcaption scores for a single performance:

  1. Click the lock icon in the performance card header
  2. All subcaption scores for that performance are locked simultaneously

Note: This action locks all unlocked scores. There is no bulk unlock option—you must unlock individual subcaptions if needed.

Verification Status

Verification status indicates whether a score has been reviewed through your organization's verification workflow.

Status Indicators

Each subcaption displays a verification indicator:

Icon Color Status
Check mark Green Verified - Score approved
X mark Red Rejected - Score flagged for review
Check mark Gray Pending - Awaiting verification

Performance-Level Verification

The performance card border color reflects the overall verification status:

  • Green border - All non-training subcaptions are verified
  • Red border - At least one subcaption has been rejected
  • No special border - Verification in progress

Training Captions

Scores marked as "training" (shown with a yellow background):

  • Do not affect the performance's verification status
  • Are not included in official score calculations
  • Are used for training new judges during live events

Training judges record commentary and enter scores to learn how the system works, without affecting official results.

Verification Workflow

Verification occurs on the judge's device:

  1. Judge submits score - Judge enters the score on their tablet or phone
  2. Judge verifies - After submission, the judge reviews and verifies their own score in the Judge App
  3. Status updates - The verification status automatically updates on the Event Scoring page in real-time

Judges can also reject their own score if they notice an error, which flags it for correction.

Best Practices

During the Competition

  • Lock scores as each performance completes to prevent accidental changes
  • Address rejected scores promptly by coordinating with the judge
  • Keep performance cards expanded for performances currently being verified

Before Releasing Scores

  1. Verify all performances show a green border (fully verified)
  2. Check for any rejected scores (red indicators) and resolve issues
  3. Lock all scores to prevent last-minute changes
  4. Review the score summary for each performance if needed

Handling Rejected Scores

If a score is rejected:

  1. Contact the judge responsible for that subcaption
  2. Determine if a correction is needed
  3. If yes, unlock the subcaption so the judge can make corrections
  4. Once corrected, the score goes through verification again

Troubleshooting

Lock icon shows a spinner

The system is processing your lock/unlock request. Wait for it to complete before clicking again.

Cannot lock a score

Ensure the score has been submitted by the judge. Empty scores cannot be locked.

Verification status not updating

Verification status updates in real-time via the server. If updates are delayed:

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Refresh the page if necessary
