Listening to Commentary

Audio commentary is recorded feedback from judges during your performance. This guide explains how to access and listen to judge commentary.

Finding Commentary

  1. Go to Events > Past Events in your group
  2. Select a year from the sidebar
  3. Locate the performance you want to review
  4. Look for judge entries listed under the performance header

Each entry shows:

  • Caption initials - The judging category (e.g., GE, VIS, EFF)
  • Judge name - The judge who provided the commentary

Playing Commentary

Using the Play Button

  1. Click the play icon next to a judge entry
  2. The audio player appears at the top of the page
  3. Commentary begins playing automatically

The player displays:

  • Event and competition name
  • Caption and judge name

Play/Pause Toggle playback
Timeline Click to jump to any point
Volume Adjust audio level

Listening to Multiple Judges

Click play on any commentary to switch to that recording. The previous audio stops and the new selection begins.

Downloading Commentary

To save commentary for offline listening:

  1. Click the download icon next to a judge entry
  2. The audio file downloads to your device
  3. File format is typically MP3

Downloaded files are named with the performance and caption information for easy organization.

Reading Judge Notes

Some judges provide written notes in addition to or instead of audio commentary.

Judge notes appear in a bordered box below the judge's name. These are typically brief observations or suggestions that complement the audio feedback.

Understanding Commentary Availability

Available Commentary

A play icon in the normal color indicates commentary is ready to listen.

Unavailable Commentary

Indicator Meaning
Gray/disabled play icon Commentary not yet available
No play icon No commentary recorded for this caption
No download icon Audio file not available for download

Played Indicator

After playing commentary, the play icon changes to a darker shade. This helps you track which judges you've already listened to.

Tips for Reviewing Commentary

Best Practices

  1. Use headphones for clearer audio
  2. Take notes while listening to capture key points
  3. Review multiple judges to identify common themes
  4. Compare to your own video if available

Understanding Feedback

  • Commentary is recorded during the performance in real-time
  • Judges may reference specific moments using your music or timing
  • Listen for both positive observations and areas for improvement

Troubleshooting

No Audio Playing

  • Check your device volume
  • Ensure your browser allows audio playback
  • Try downloading the file instead

Commentary Not Available

If you don't see commentary for an event where you expected it, contact your circuit or event host. Some events may not include audio commentary.

Poor Audio Quality

  • Download the file for potentially better quality
  • Commentary quality depends on recording conditions at the event
