Live Score Updates
The Live Score Updates feature provides real-time monitoring of scores as judges submit them during a competition. This is essential for tabulation staff, announcers, and administrators who need to track scoring progress and be alerted to changes.
Accessing Live Score Updates
- Navigate to Score Preview in your competition
- Click Live Score Updates for the desired division or round
A modal window opens showing all performances with their current scores.
View Options
The Live Score Updates modal supports multiple views, each designed for different roles during the competition:
| View | Description | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Tabulation | Full scoring details with all categories | Tabulation staff |
| Admin | Administrative view with complete information | Event administrators |
| Announcer | Streamlined view for announcement preparation | Announcers |
| Video Truck | Simplified view for video production | Video/broadcast teams |
Select your preferred view using the buttons at the top of the modal. Your selection is saved automatically and persists between sessions.
Each view maintains its own set of score change alerts. For example, clearing alerts in the Tabulation view does not affect alerts shown in the Announcer view. This allows different team members to track changes independently.
Sort Order
You can sort performances in two ways:
- Performance Order - Display in original lineup order
- Total Score - Display by current score (highest to lowest)
Click the appropriate button under "Sort Order" to change the view. Your preference is saved automatically.
Understanding the Score Table
Table Columns
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Group name |
| Division | Division name (only shown for mixed-division views) |
| Category columns | Individual category scores (e.g., Visual, Music) |
| Total | Calculated total score |
| Actions | Alert controls |
Score Status Colors
The table uses color coding to indicate score status:
| Color | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green background | Scores have been verified by judges |
| Yellow background | Score has changed since you last cleared alerts |
| Red background | One or more scores are missing in this category |
The legend at the bottom of the modal explains each status color.
Managing Score Change Alerts
When scores change, the affected rows are highlighted in yellow to draw your attention.
Clearing Individual Alerts
- Locate the row with the yellow highlight
- Click Clear Alert in the rightmost column
- The yellow highlight is removed for that performance
Clearing All Alerts
To clear all alerts at once:
- Click Clear All in the table header (top right corner)
- All yellow highlights are removed
Missing Score Detection
When a category is missing one or more scores (e.g., a judge hasn't submitted), the category cell appears with a red background. This helps you quickly identify incomplete scoring.
Real-Time Updates
Scores update automatically in real-time as judges submit them from their tablets. You do not need to refresh the page or reopen the modal to see the latest scores.
The Live Score Updates feature uses Firebase for instant synchronization across all connected devices.
Best Practices
For Tabulation Staff
- Keep the Tabulation view open on a dedicated monitor
- Clear alerts after verifying each score change
- Check for red (missing) cells before finalizing scores
For Announcers
- Use the Announcer view to avoid information overload
- Sort by Total Score to see current standings
- Wait for your alerts to clear before preparing announcements
For Video Teams
- The Video Truck view provides minimal information for graphic displays
- Use Total Score sort to show current standings
- Clear alerts to track which scores you've already used
Closing the Modal
Click Close at the bottom of the modal to return to the Score Preview page. Your view and sort preferences are automatically saved.
Solo & Ensemble Events
Live Score Updates is not available for Solo & Ensemble format events. This is because Solo & Ensemble competitions use a different scoring workflow that doesn't require real-time monitoring across multiple performances.
For Solo & Ensemble events, use the Scoring page to review individual performance scores.
