Controlling Score Access

Controlling Score Access

The Score Release page allows you to precisely control who can access competition scores. Use the toggle switches to grant or revoke access to different audiences by division and round.

Navigating to Score Release

  1. Navigate to your organization
  2. Select the event from your event list
  3. Click the competition name
  4. Select Score Release from the competition menu
  5. Click Score Release in the left sidebar (if not already selected)

The Public Recap URL

At the top of the Score Release page, you'll find the Public Recap URL. This URL provides public access to your competition recap when public access is enabled.

To share the recap URL:

  1. Click the copy icon next to the URL to copy it to your clipboard
  2. Click View to open the recap in a new browser tab

The URL format is: https://recaps.competitionsuite.com/[competition-guid].htm

Programmatic (API)

How to Release Scores

  1. Locate the division and round you want to release
  2. Find the audience you want to grant access to (Groups, Judges, Public, or Programmatic)
  3. Click the toggle switch to change from Deny Access to Allow Access
  4. The change takes effect immediately

To revoke access, click the toggle again to switch back to Deny Access.

Releasing Scores in Stages

A common workflow for score release follows this pattern:

  1. During competition - All toggles set to "Deny Access"
  2. After a round completes - Release Performance Summaries to Groups
  3. After final scores are verified - Release Recap to Groups
  4. Post-event - Release to Public and Judges as appropriate

Divisions with Multiple Rounds

If your division has multiple rounds (such as Prelims and Finals), each round has its own set of release toggles. This allows you to:

  • Release preliminary scores while finals are still in progress
  • Keep final scores hidden until awards
  • Release different content to different audiences at different times

Score Release Logs

At the bottom of the page, the Score Release Logs section shows a complete history of all release actions. Each entry includes:

  • The person who made the change
  • The date and time of the change
  • Whether access was granted or revoked
  • The specific division, round, level, and audience affected

This log is useful for:

  • Auditing who released scores and when
  • Troubleshooting if scores were released prematurely
  • Confirming that scores have been released to all intended audiences

Best Practices

  • Verify scores before releasing - Use the Scoring page to lock and verify all scores before making them public
  • Coordinate with announcers - If you're announcing scores live, ensure you've released to the announcer view before public release
  • Start restrictive - Begin with all access denied and progressively open access as needed
  • Check your logs - Review the release history if there are questions about when scores became visible

Troubleshooting

Score Release is disabled

Score Release will be disabled if:

  • The event is a training event - Create a non-training event to enable score release
  • The event is not activated - Provide payment information to activate the event

Division shows "Score release is disabled"

If you see a message indicating score release is disabled for a specific division, the division's "Can Scores Be Published" setting is turned off.

To enable score release for the division:

  1. Click the link to Division Setup shown in the message
  2. Find the affected division
  3. Enable the "Can Scores Be Published" setting
  4. Return to Score Release to release scores

Note: Divisions with score release disabled appear visually muted on the Score Release page with an informational message explaining why.

"No groups assigned" message

If you see this message, you need to add groups to your competition before you can release scores. Go to the competition's Lineup page to add groups.
