TV Display and Live Monitor

The TV Display feature lets you control a live score monitor during your event. Display individual performance scores on screens throughout your venue as performers finish, creating excitement and engagement for audiences and performers alike.

Accessing TV Display

  1. Navigate to your organization
  2. Select the event from your event list
  3. Click the competition name
  4. Select Score Release from the competition menu
  5. Click TV Display in the left sidebar

The Monitor URL

At the top of the TV Display page, you'll find the Monitor URL. This is the public web address that displays live scores on any screen with a web browser.

To use the Monitor URL:

  1. Click the copy icon to copy the URL to your clipboard
  2. Open the URL on any device (TV, computer, tablet, projector display)
  3. The monitor page will update automatically as you make scores visible

The URL format is: https://competitionsuite.com/monitor/[unique-key]/

Setting Up Your Display

Hardware Requirements

To display live scores, you'll need:

  • A screen (TV, monitor, or projector)
  • A device with a web browser (computer, smart TV, streaming device, tablet)
  • Internet connection

Display Setup Steps

  1. Open a web browser on your display device
  2. Navigate to your Monitor URL
  3. Set the browser to full-screen mode (usually F11 or the browser's full-screen option)
  4. Position the display where audiences and performers can see it

Tip: For the best experience, use a device that stays awake and doesn't require interaction. Set power settings to prevent the screen from sleeping during your event.

Controlling Score Visibility

The TV Display page shows all performances organized by division and round. Each performance has:

  • The group name
  • The current score (updates in real-time)
  • A visibility toggle

Making Scores Visible

  1. Find the performance in the list
  2. Click the toggle switch to change from Hidden to Visible
  3. The score immediately appears on the monitor display

Hiding Scores

To remove a score from the display:

  1. Find the performance in the list
  2. Click the toggle to change from Visible to Hidden
  3. The score disappears from the monitor display

Real-Time Score Updates

Scores update automatically on both the TV Display control page and the public monitor as judges enter them. You don't need to refresh the page - the WebSocket connection keeps everything synchronized.

Managing Your Display

Showing Scores Progressively

A common workflow during competition:

  1. Start with all scores Hidden
  2. As each group finishes and scores are entered, toggle their score to Visible
  3. Audiences see scores appear on the monitor as groups complete their performances

Awards Ceremony Display

For awards ceremonies:

  1. Hide all scores before awards begin
  2. As each placement is announced, reveal that group's score
  3. Build excitement by revealing scores in reverse placement order

Full Results Display

After the competition:

  1. Toggle all performances to Visible
  2. The monitor shows the complete results for reference

Prerequisites

TV Display requires:

  • An activated event - Training events and events without payment do not support TV Display
  • Judges assigned - Performances need judges assigned to have scores
  • Groups competing - At least one group must be set up to compete

If requirements aren't met, you'll see: "There aren't any performances to display! Make sure you have judges assigned and groups set up to compete."

Troubleshooting

Scores not updating on the monitor

  • Verify the monitor URL is correct
  • Check the internet connection on the display device
  • Ensure scores have been entered by judges
  • Confirm the performance is toggled to "Visible"

Monitor display is blank

  • Make sure at least one performance is set to "Visible"
  • Verify judges are assigned and groups are added to the competition
  • Check that you're using the correct Monitor URL

Display device going to sleep

  • Adjust power settings on the display device
  • Some browsers have extensions to prevent sleep
  • Consider using a dedicated media player or streaming device

Best Practices

  • Test before the event - Set up and test your display equipment before competition day
  • Assign a display manager - Have someone dedicated to managing what appears on the monitor
  • Position strategically - Place displays where they're visible but don't distract performers
  • Coordinate with announcers - Sync score reveals with verbal announcements
  • Have a backup plan - Keep the Announcer Script ready in case of technical issues
