Spiel Scripts

Spiel scripts are customizable announcer templates that help your event announcers deliver consistent, professional introductions for every performing group. Instead of improvising or reading from handwritten notes, announcers can use pre-written scripts with dynamic content that automatically fills in group-specific information.

What is a Spiel Script?

A spiel script is a formatted text template that contains both static text (what the announcer says for every group) and dynamic variables (information that changes for each group). When announcers view the spiel sheets at an event, all variables are automatically replaced with the actual data for each performing group.

Example Script Template:

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome {Group Name} from {Group Location}, performing in {Group Division}.

What the Announcer Sees:

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome North Valley Winter Guard from Phoenix, Arizona, performing in Scholastic A.

Why Use Spiel Scripts?

  • Consistency - Every group gets the same professional introduction
  • Accuracy - Dynamic data pulls directly from group submissions, eliminating announcer errors
  • Customization - Include any information groups have submitted (show name, music credits, director names, etc.)
  • Time savings - Create once, use at every event
  • Flexibility - Create different scripts for different group types or occasions

Common Use Cases

Scenario Script Content
Standard introduction Group name, location, division, show title
Championships Extended introduction with director names, show credits
Recognition Include membership status, years competing
Sponsor mentions Organization-specific acknowledgments

Accessing Spiel Scripts

  1. Log in to CompetitionSuite as an organization administrator
  2. Navigate to your organization
  3. Click Settings in the top navigation
  4. Select Spiel Scripts from the Setup menu

Prerequisites

Before you can create spiel scripts, you must have at least one Group Type (configuration) set up in your organization. Spiel scripts are created per group type, allowing you to have different introduction styles for different activity types (e.g., Guard vs. Percussion).

How Spiel Scripts Work at Events

  1. Create scripts in Settings > Spiel Scripts
  2. Assign to competitions - Select which script to use for each group type in Event Setup > Announcer Settings
  3. View at events - Announcers access the Spiel Sheets page to see scripts with all variables populated for each group

Access Requirements

To manage spiel scripts, you need Organization Setup access. Contact your organization administrator if you need this permission.
