Managing Divisions
Divisions help you organize competing groups within your organization by skill level, age group, size, or other criteria. Each division can have its own scoring systems, timing rules, and display settings.
Before You Begin
Before creating divisions, you need to set up:
- Group Types - Define the types of groups in your organization (e.g., Marching Band, Color Guard, Percussion)
- Scoring Systems - Create at least one scoring system for your divisions to use
Accessing Division Settings
- Navigate to your organization
- Click the Settings menu (gear icon) in the top right
- Select Divisions from the setup menu on the left
Understanding the Divisions Page
The Divisions page displays all your divisions organized by group type. Each group type panel shows:
- Division name - The full name of the division
- Labels indicating configured features:
- mixed - Division contains groups from multiple sub-divisions
- interval - Time interval (in minutes) between performances
- ratings - Rating system is configured
- timers - Timer system is configured
- counters - Counter system is configured
- boundary - Boundary system is configured
- Missing score system warnings - Alerts if a division is missing a required score system for a competition type
Reordering Divisions
To change the display order of divisions within a group type:
- Hover over the division you want to move
- Click and hold the drag handle (sort icon) on the left
- Drag the division to your preferred position
- Release to save the new order
The order you set here affects how divisions appear in schedules, recaps, and public pages.
Division Changes and Event Registrations
When you change a group's division, the system checks for any future event registrations that may be affected. If the group is registered for upcoming events where the new division doesn't match, you'll see a notification.
How It Works
- A group's division is changed (either by you or through an approved change request)
- The system scans for future event registrations
- If mismatches are found, a modal appears showing:
- Events where the group is registered
- The current division they're registered under
- Options to resolve the mismatch
Resolving Mismatches
When a mismatch is detected, you can:
- Update the registration - Move the group to the new division in the event
- Keep the current registration - Leave them in the original division for that event
- Cancel the registration - Remove them from the event entirely
This helps ensure groups are competing in the correct division at all events.
Archived Divisions
Divisions that are no longer in active use can be archived. Archived divisions appear grayed out in the list with an "archived" badge. They are hidden from event setup but preserve all historical data.
To learn more about archiving, see Archiving Divisions.
