Event Restriction

Event Restriction is a security feature that limits access to sensitive events. When enabled, only administrators and users with explicit permission can access the event, preventing accidental score releases or unauthorized viewing.

Accessing Event Restriction

  1. Navigate to your Organization > Events > select your Event
  2. Click Setup in the event navigation
  3. Click Event Restriction in the sidebar (at the bottom)

When to Use Event Restriction

Restrict events when:

  • Championships or finals - High-stakes events where premature score exposure could be problematic
  • Sensitive scoring situations - Events with controversial or close outcomes
  • Security concerns - When you need to limit who sees event data
  • VIP events - Events with stricter access requirements

Restricting an Event

If the event is currently unrestricted:

  1. Read the warning message explaining the implications
  2. Click Yes, Restrict My Event
  3. The event is now restricted

What Happens When Restricted

  • Only organization administrators see the event
  • Users with standard organization access lose event access
  • You must explicitly grant access to individuals who need it
  • The event remains fully functional for authorized users

Who Retains Access

After restriction:

  • Organization Administrators - Full access retained
  • Users with explicit event access - Access retained
  • Standard organization users - Access removed until explicitly granted

Removing a Restriction

If the event is currently restricted:

  1. Read the warning about removing the restriction
  2. Click Yes, Remove the Restriction on My Event
  3. Standard access is restored

What Happens When Unrestricted

  • Users with normal organization access regain event access
  • No explicit permissions are removed
  • Access returns to standard organization settings

Managing Access for Restricted Events

To give someone access to a restricted event:

  1. Go to Organization > Settings (gear icon)
  2. Navigate to People
  3. Find the user
  4. Grant them specific event access permissions
  5. They can now access the restricted event

See Event Access to review who currently has access.

Visual Indicators

When an event is restricted:

  • A warning or indicator may appear in the event header
  • The Event Restriction page shows the "Remove Restriction" option
  • Access audit shows only explicitly permitted users

Common Scenarios

Championship Event Security

For your championship:

  1. Restrict the event before adding any sensitive data
  2. Verify access in the Event Access page
  3. Add only essential staff with explicit permissions
  4. Keep restricted until after official score release

Temporary Restriction

If you need to temporarily limit access:

  1. Restrict the event
  2. Perform sensitive operations
  3. Remove the restriction when complete
  4. Normal access resumes automatically

Accidentally Restricted

If an event was restricted by mistake:

  1. Click Yes, Remove the Restriction on My Event
  2. Access is restored immediately
  3. No data or settings are affected

Best Practices

Before Restricting

  1. Note who currently has access (Event Access page)
  2. Identify who needs continued access
  3. Have a plan for granting explicit permissions

During Restriction

  1. Regularly audit Event Access
  2. Remove access from anyone who no longer needs it
  3. Use explicit permissions rather than broad roles

After the Event

  1. Consider removing the restriction
  2. Or leave restricted for record-keeping
  3. Restricted events remain accessible to administrators
